Redmans, Cardens and related families in and around Brighton and the Isle of Wight in the 1881 Census

In doing research on my Carden and Redman ancestors in Brighton and the Isle of Wight in the South of England, I extracted many records from the 1881 Census. Whilst only a few of these are genuine ancestors, I am providing this research material in case it is of use to others. There were two criteria used to extract these records from the Census. First, each individual had to be a Carden, Redman or relative. Secondly, EITHER the Census Place had to be Brighton, the Isle of Wight or nearby, OR one of the people in each Census Record had to be born in Brighton or the Isle of Wight. Further genuine ancestors may be discovered as I go through Parish Records. If so, they will be added to the main part of this web site. There are some 44 family groups and 21 individuals included here. To facilitate navigation and to ensure that all the records are accessible, a number of fictitious characters, based on the name "Adam Genesis" have been included to provide some sort of structure. However, it MUST NOT be taken to imply an actual link between the otherwise disparate family groups. For example, the 19 children of "Adam Genesis A Redman" are unlikely, in reality, to be siblings; although it may later turn out that a few actually are.
