Richard appears in the Bishop's Transcripts for the Parish of Falmer as the father of six children all baptised in Falmer, a few miles from Brighton. The earliest remaining record of this branch of the Cardens is therefore the baptism of his first son Richard. Richard signs (his mark) as Churchwarden in both 1623 and 1624. There is also a record of the burial in Falmer of "Mary wife of Richard Carden", in 1626.
